Sustainable bras are good for you and the planet. We make ours in organic cotton and Tencel, wire free and available in up to 34 proper sizes. There’s a lot of greenwashing out there, but truly sustainable bras containing zero plastic and synthetics are rare. Even 1% of spandex or lycra means a bra can’t be recycled or eaten by worms. Choose proper sustainable bras that won’t end up in landfill – bras designed from the earth, to return to it.
Plastic Free on Purpose
There’s a lot of greenwashing in fashion, but a truly sustainable bra can’t contain even 1% of spandex or polyester. Once plastic is added, it can never return to the earth. At The Very Good Bra, we design every piece from the end backwards. Our fabrics are organic cotton or Tencel, both grown and processed without harmful chemicals. The elastic is made from natural rubber knitted into cotton, and the sewing thread is 100% cellulose. Labels are printed directly on the fabric using certified safe inks. Every part of the bra is made to break down naturally when it’s finished, not sit for centuries in landfill.
The impact is bigger than it looks. Around 85% of textiles end up in landfill, two thirds of which are synthetic and take hundreds of years to decompose. We design to stop that cycle. Every sustainable bra we make helps cut the flow of microplastics into waterways and methane into the atmosphere. It’s proof that comfort and conscience can share a wardrobe.

Why Wire Free Works Better
Wire free doesn’t mean less support – it means smarter comfort. The shape and lift come from the cut and construction, not metal or plastic. Each wireless bra is made from naturally flexible fibres that move with your body, so the fit stays comfortable all day. Soft cups and stable bands give structure where it’s needed, while the breathable fabric helps regulate temperature and reduce irritation.
For anyone used to underwires, the change can be transformational. Once you realise that a bra can hold its shape without hard edges, it’s hard to go back. Our sustainable cotton bras use carefully layered panels to create lift and separation, proving that support doesn’t have to come from steel. Even the removable bra pads are plant based and compostable, adding light shaping without synthetic foam.
